Unit Of Breeding

Activity goal - to breed and select cultivars that are adapted to the Baltic Sea region and are compatible in their phenotypic plasticity, crop yield, produce quality, pest and disease resilience.

Activity directions:

  • Breeding of cultivars that are adapted to the agro-climatic conditions of the Baltic Sea region, breeding of cultivars of primary fruit crop culture (apples, raspberries) that are highly resistant or immune to pests and diseases
  • Genetic resource characterisation, genotyping, diversity analysis and use for cultivar diversification and breeding of horticultural crops
  • The introduction of less common vegetable species in Latvia
