‘Antonovka’

Antonovka

‘Antonovka’ may be called the Russian national apple. Its aromatic, acidic fruits are unsurpassed for various ways of cooking and processing. The most beautiful and tasty fruits of ‘Antonovka’ ripen in continental climate, like in Eastern Latvia. Fruits from this region also store longer. ‘Antonovka’ has been used in variety breeding a lot, to improve winter-hardiness and disease tolerance. The cultivar has several clones, of which the most valuable is ‘Antonovka Krasnobochka’, called also ‘Antonovka Kamenichka’. Some other clones are not genetically distinct from the ‘Common Antonovka’, and their seeming differences are the result of varying growth conditions, for example, clone ‘Antonovka Monastirskaya’.
