‘Cukuriņš’ (‘Korobovka’)
Many Latvians think of it as an old local variety, but actually the cultivar originates from Russia, where it is called ‘Korobovka’ or ‘Medunichka’. The apples are small, but well-loved because of their sweet taste and early ripening. ‘Korobovka’ has also other good properties – it is very winter-hardy and tolerant to canker. On the other side, the tree is slow-growing, and the crown is not easy to manage. Recently a clone with brighter red fruits was found in Latvia.
