‘Lobo’

Lobo

This is one of the many cultivars obtained from the famous Canadian apple variety ‘McIntosh’. ‘Lobo’ is known since 1930, but to Latvia it came only in 1959. The cultivar has many good properties – the fruits are beautiful and tasty, the tree is winter-hardy, rather small and easy to prune. Unluckily ‘Lobo’ is extremely susceptible to all kinds of disease and will not produce fruit yield without fungicide sprayings. For this reason it is no more planted in Latvian commercial orchards. The apples of ‘Lobo’ sold at supermarkets mostly come from Poland. ‘Lobo’ is a favourite variety also in the Northern climate of Finland.
