‘Zoltners’

Zoltners

Now and then, somewhere in the world a strange mutation occurs on apple trees – flowers without petals and fruits without seeds. The flowering of such trees is hard to notice, as there are seemingly only green, unopened buds on the branches. Fruits, which form from such flowers, are smallish, oblong and have a very wide, shallow eye. Such are ‘Wellington Bloomless’, ‘Rae Ime’ found in Estonia and some others. Recently this group of strange apples was joined by a Latvian variety ‘Zoltners’, found in 2017 in Tērvete region near a field.
