The project No. 1.1.1.1/16/A/094 “Environment-friendly cultivation of emerging commercial fruit crop Japanese quince - Chaenomeles japonica and waste-free methods of its processing”, co-funded by the ERDF, was successfully finished. 

In the three-year implementation period of the project 11 scientific papers, including 4 Q1 journals, were published, 19 presentations were given in different international scientific events, 2 new technologies for processing products were developed, 6 promising new hybrids were selected from the breeding material, the hybrids have been planted in fields for further cultivar comparison; 2 seminars for plant growers and processing companies were organized with more than 80 participants.

The project has received a very high assessment score by international experts – total proportional evaluation of quality criteria- 98%.

Three more papers were published in Q1 journals (“Scientia Horticulturae”, “J Am Oil Chem Soc” and “NATURAL PRODUCT RESEARCH”) after the end of the project implementation in 2020. 

The Ministry of Agriculture has highly rated the project and its implementators by granting it one of the highest awards - "Sējējs 2020" in the category "Science in innovations and praxis".
