Researchers from the Institute of Horticulture Receive Science of the Year Award

The team from the LatHort, led by senior researchers Dalija Segliņa and Pawel Górnas, has been awarded the prestigious Science of the Year Award in the category "Agricultural Biotechnology." The award recognizes their research, which uncovered new insights into vitamin E compounds – tocotrienols – in the seeds of dicotyledonous plants.
The project was carried out by our researchers Dalija Segliņa, Pawel Górnas, Inga Mišina, Georgijs Baškirovs, Danija Lazdiņa, and Elise Sipeniece. The results of the study expand our understanding of the biochemical composition of plants and make a valuable contribution to agricultural and food science.
Director of the LatHort, Inese Ebele, commented:
“This award is a major achievement, and it provides even greater motivation for future research and scientific exploration. We are proud of these results and of being part of such an important process.”
The award ceremony, organized by the Latvian Academy of Sciences, highlighted the diversity and significance of scientific research being carried out in Latvia.
