The Institute of Horticulture (LatHort) had the honour of welcoming the Minister for Climate and Energy, Mr Kaspars Melnis, during his visit today. The Minister met with Institute Director Inese Ebele and leading researchers to discuss key issues related to climate policy, sustainable agriculture, and energy use in horticultural production.

During the meeting, the Institute's experts presented ongoing research initiatives and innovative approaches focused on the development of fruit and berry varieties adapted to the Baltic region, as well as environmentally friendly cultivation systems.

Minister Melnis emphasized the importance of LatHort’s work, stating:
“The Institute of Horticulture plays a vital role – it develops varieties suited to the Baltic region and eco-friendly growing systems. It’s the shortest path to delicious, locally grown fruits served on edible tableware designed by the Institute itself.”

This visit highlights the value of collaboration between science and government in achieving long-term sustainability goals and promoting innovation in Latvian agriculture.
