Activities are aimed to select the most promising clones of wild cherry (Cerasus avium Moench. Syn. Prunus avium L.), to develop vegetative propagation technologies for wild cherry clones (cuttings, tissue cultures) and to establish experimental plantations of local and introduced clones – promising for wood and fruit production clones. Seedlings purchased in other countries, as well local clones grown by researchers in Latvia (LSFRI Silava - propagated in tissue cultures, Institute of Horticulture - rooted cuttings) will be planted on previously managed or unmanaged agricultural land, and managed as intensive (agricultural) or extensive (forestry) practice.
The project is co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).
